  • Made by a well-known company (Nokia)

Cons

  • Most of its features are replicated in Google Maps

"HERE" is Nokia's map app debut that is intended to compete with more popular navigation apps.

When Nokia's "HERE" first came out, it had some revolutionary features. Namely, it was able to download maps and do offline navigation. It was also able to get live public transit information and show users the fastest route, even taking train and bus delays into account. These features are still fully operational, but there's just one problem with them: almost every other popular navigation app has now implemented them.

"HERE" still does function well, even though it's becoming more dated. It contains all the features users have come to expect from navigation apps. It has live traffic information, public transit information, fastest route calculation, and satellite and even 3D model views of cities as you travel. Of course, the offline version cannot do the more complex tasks and tasks that require network connectivity, but it will still get you where you need to go.

"HERE" used many of the ideas that made Google Maps popular. The user interface is very intuitive, so chances are that if you've used any comparable map app before, you will have no trouble picking up on how to use this one. While this app is nicely designed, not many users will be persuaded to switch to it. It even has search features that allow users to find the closest restaurants, but again, this feature is already implemented in almost every other map app.

A few years ago, "HERE" was considered the most cutting edge map and navigation application. As time has gone on, its status has faded, and not much has been added that would place it on top of its competition. Nevertheless, it's an excellent alternative for users who are experiencing issues with top map apps. Oddly, it hasn't received the same coverage as its more popular competitors, but it's certainly worth a try.
